feathered rogue

i hear a shuffling of leaves
and a rustling of branches
betwixt the trees
towards me he advances
the most vile of thieves
my loathsome suitor unfurls his feathers
that untrustworthy rogue steals no riches
but instead with his eyes he bewitches
he has stolen my heart, much to my displeasure
but he will not keep it forever
i’ll make his rose-tinted glasses turn black
and his yearning red heart will begin to crack
and i know that you adore me
and that it hurts when i ignore you
but i’ll never be yours
so i wink you goodbye
and ascend to the sky
i don’t need to look behind
to see that after me you’ll soar
